... and pay the lady

Tonight, folks, after two hours of him jack-in-a-boxing in and out of bed, I bribed my son to sleep. It was not without its amusing moments.

'If you go to sleep, tomorrow we can go for ice-cream!'

'From the ice cream van!'

'Yes, we'll have ice cream from the ice cream van. What else shall we do?'

'Go to the park!'

'Yes, good idea, we can go to the park. What else would you like to do?'

'Get some money!'

'OK...... what else can we do?'

'Pay the lady'

'Aha.... but what else can we do?'

'Buy a white ice-cream'

'I see. So we get some money, go to the park, find the ice-cream van, pay the lady and buy a white ice-cream'

'Yeth'

'What else can we do?'

'Buy a yellow ice cream.'

I used to tell my daughter stories designed to make her want to close her eyes. For example, "One night, she went to bed, and after she fell asleep, there was a knock on the window." (This only happens after she falls asleep.) "It was Chocky the flying horse! He said, 'Hi, would you like to come to Chocolate Land?' " (Then follows a long description inspired by Willy Wonka and chocolate brand advertising.) There is also Marshmallow Land (brought by Marshy the horse) and sometimes a visit to both.

My mother in law, on the other hand, specialises in stories like, "The little dog went for a walk, but he was SOOO sleepy he decided to find somewhere to lie down and close his eyes." (Insert many yawns while telling the story.)

Sounds like it could turn into one of those memory gmaes: "my aunt went to India and brought me back...".

Sounds like you are getting the play by play commentary these days as well! It's a fun age, huh? Love the way their little minds work.

Hi have done all sorts of bribe too. Nothing worked. Best thing for me was to leave little one to cry her eyes out ( and mine), repeat for 3 nights and we had our way.

Good luck,

Ju :)

I for realz think I could eat with this kid. Who needs food groups when there are colors of ice cream to be explored.
