Better out than in

We think our son may be enrolled in a nursery but at the moment we're not entirely sure. The other day they sent him home because he cried after his nap. Charlie hates waking up and often cries after his nap, but because, get this, they had never seen him cry... should I repeat that? They had never seen him cry and they were so worried that they... sent him home.

I don't know what happy pills they give the kids in there but he's been going to the nursery for a month and a half... and no tears, you say? Give ME some of that. Right now, you bastards.

Today they sent him home because he'd had a big poo. OK, it's runny-tummy season and all that but really. And, they threw his knickers in the bin. Must have been a corker.

Anyway, so this afternoon he's been home running rings around his father who was unfortunate enough to have a day to himself that he was hoping to enjoy doing Frog things. Fiddling about with cabling I expect. Cleaning things. But no, sadly he spent it at the beck and call of a little shouting potato.

The nursery have also excluded him for 48 hours on the basis that he might have the flu which is fair enough and this means we should keep him out of polite company.

No change there then.

And you pay them for this?
It's a little extreme isn't it?

Isn't it funny how our little ones seem to be perfect angels at nursery? I once asked them what their secret was - getting the child to eat up, go to sleep on the dot, etc. "We have a different culture here" they said, with only a hint of xenofobia in their voices.

Have been trying to get some of this culture, but apparently it takes caring for 12 toddlers simultaneously so...not in this life.

Binned the knickers? Bit extreme.

Sometimes you just have to shake your head, shrug your shoulders and wonder about these people!

Frog - I know, it's a little puzzling... I could understand it today when they thought he might be ill but...

Jennie - I wondered this too, but then I think it's 'monkey see monkey do' and when a dozen other toddlers are all doing the same thing it's easy for them to copy... I'm seriously not going to get a dozen of them in the house to check it out though...

Michelle - well, I do sort of understand if they think a child is sick but it did seem a little prompt!

What is going on with preschools anymore? When I worked at one, we kept a kid in school who puked on the way in! Now, they send them home for a "big poop"?!

"Binned the knickers" - I love how you people talk!!
"Binned the knickers" - it's just fun to say.

Yeah...uh....my son threw up all over himself the other day. The sitter washed his shirt, sent it home the next day, and didn't tell me a thing until I picked him up that evening. Can we say "too strict" for that nursery the Spud is in? Dang. Hope he is feeling OK. Hopefully that was just one big poo and not anything serious.

Sparx - i think you're right. If 11 other children eat their fish with peas, then miraculously my kids will too!

Jen - um, and I'm American! I guess "monkey see, monkey do" is right! ;-)

I love the fact that you say he has been excluded, as if he has been throwing bricks through windows or something equally unacceptable. However, I don't think for one minute that they should keep sending him home. Sounds like they are taking the easy option.

Jen - I actually thought you might be more on their side given your history! Glad to know I'm not completely bonkers.

Jonny's Mommy - yes, just a big poo, he'd not had one for two days, hardly a surprise!!

Jennie - exactly - we had a friend over for dinner today and the spud ate his plate completely clean.

Rosiescribble - that's rather what I think too...

Dotterel - Just call the council and have done with it!!

Oy! My 25 year old just called me tonight from Southern California asking whether she should go to the doctor because her glands are swollen, her throat is sore and she's been sick for a week. She doesn't have a fever, (or insurance) so I told her to stay in bed and drink hot tea with lemon and honey. Some things never change!

Lol, everyone is picking on the nursery but they are only following government guidelines. All children with D&V or either one must be excluded for 48 hours after the last symptom. Stops outbreaks of Norovirus and other nasties. Poor Frog tho...

Hey... You married a frog... my grand children are tadpoles - does that mean we are related in some strange blurty sort of way?

BTW - Keep blurting... I like it.

Cactus - I kind of like it that we never stop being Mums, I hope that's how it is!

DJ - I know I know but someone who was there has just told me that it wasn't a liquid poo at all, just a big one...

HYSTM: Perhaps we are all pond-life?!

Hilarious as always, Sparx! Luckily my kids have average sized poos, and are thus generally not excluded from school :)
And I must say, I wasn't sure what to expect, with that blog post title! :) :)
